The STMP3400 integrates on one chip the mechanism to download music from a host PC, music decode, voice record, and interfaces to control LCD, buttons,

5、 and FM tuner. 2. Can the STMP3400 be the host chip or slave chip in a device? Actually the STMP3400 audio decoder can be both a host chip, or main chip in a device, and a slave chip to a host processor. 3. What are the major function blocks on the STMP3400? The STMP3400 includes a high performance

6、DSP, an USB interface to download music and upload voice recordings, DAC, ADC for voice recordings, flash memory interface, LCD interface, on-chip DCDC converter to supply power to the chip, GPIO for buttons and switches, I2C and SPI interface to connect to EEPROMs or other external chips like FM tu

7、ner, and I2S interface to connect to a host processor or other external chips. 4. What kind of processor or DSP is on the STMP3400? The processor on the STMP3400 audio decoder is a 56004 compatible DSP. The reason it is a compatible DSP is that you are required to declare your loop structures slight

8、ly differently. 5. Does the STMP3400 audio decoder require a microcontroller? No. The DSP handles processing the software required to interface to the flash memory and LCD for instance. 6. What flash/storage types are supported on the STMP3400? Smartmedia, MMC, Secure Digital (SD), Compactflash, and

9、 IDE are the external memory types supported by the STMP3400. For on-board memory, NAND flash is supported. 7. How many flash devices does the STMP3400 support? The STMP3400 audio decoder can support up to 4 flash devices. There are flash device select pins on the chip. 8. What is the maximum memory

10、 size for each flash device? For Smartmedia and NAND flash, 256MB is the maximum size. For MMC and Secure Digital, 256 MB is the maximum size. For Compactflash, 1GB is the maximum size. The software included with the STMP3400 audio decoder chip is System software to control the various interfaces on the chip like but- tons, LCD, USB, etc., distributed as source code for customers to edit Decoding algorithm software, distributed as objec

12、t code Digital Rights Management software, distributed as object code USB driver software for the host PC 10. What decoding algorithms does the STMP3400 support? Initially, the STMP3400 audio decoder will support MP3, WMA, and AAC decoding algorithms. 11. Can the software be upgraded on the STMP3400

13、 to support new decoding algorithms? Yes. The STMP3400 has upgradeable firmware, so as emerging algorithms are released new software can be downloaded through USB to the device. 12. What development tools are available for the STMP3400? The STMP3400 development environment will consist of hardware a

14、nd software components necessary to design MP3 player systems utilizing the STMP3400 chip. The hardware components include a STMP3400 evaluation board (in-circuit emulator) as well as several reference designs. The software components allow the user to configure a C IDE interface that offers a compr

15、ehensive development environment comprising of a ANSI-C compiler, assembler, linker, simulator, debugger as well as a STMP3400 library. The components of this interface will consist of: 1.A Sigmatel library for accessing all STMP3400 chip functions in order to design a portable MP3 player, as well a

16、s functions for controlling common external components such as a LCD display or flash. 2.MP3 player example programs for the reference designs. 3.Interface to 56K design tools 4.IDE setup for Microsoft Visual C/C + that integrates the design tools as well as provides a graphical user interface to se

18、 or other chips? The STMP3400 can interface to EEPROMs through I2C or SPI or to host processors through I2S. All digital pins on the STMP3400, except testmode, are muxed as GPIO. You can use I2C or GPIO to interface to a FM tuner chip. 15. How does the STMP3400 support SDMI? The STMP3400 supports SD

19、MI 1.0 standard in the following ways. A software upgrade to version 2.0 will be available once the standard has been finalized. Recording capabilities restricted to mono voice-grade Playback and seek only occurs at “normal speeds” Save a unique ID number to on-board or external flash with a minimum

20、 length of: 128 bits, if randomly assigned or 32 bits, if uniquely assigned by an appropriate assignment authority or licensor designated by SDMI WMA codec includes digital rights management software Will support other digital rights management software in future 16. What type of file system is used

21、 to store and retrieve songs? Initially, the file system distributed with the STMP3400 will support FAT 12. Upgrades to FAT 16 and FAT 32 will be available. 17. How do I configure buttons and menu structure? With the STMP3400 audio decoder chip, development tools will be available to interactively c

22、onfigure button functions and menu structure. 18. Can the STMP3400 support an FM tuner and what type? Yes the STMP3400 supports FM tuner input and control. One FM tuner chip that you can use with the STMP3400 is the Philips 5757HL/5759HL. 19. Can STMP3400 record voice and in what format? The STMP340

23、0 audio decoder can record voice in ADPCM format. The file extension on voice recording files is .wav. 20. Can I record on Line In and Mic In at the same time? No. You can only record on 1 line at a time. 21. What type and version USB interface is supported on the STMP3400? The USB interface on the

The USB driver will support Windows Millenium when it is released. If you desire support for another operating system, notify your sales

26、representative. 24. Is STMP3400 USB mass storage compliant? A software upgrade will be available to be USB mass storage compliant. When Windows Millenium is released, all USB devices will be mass-storage compliant. 25. What types of LCDs/LCD controllers does the STMP3400 support? The STMP3400 suppor

27、ts an LCD/LCD controller that has an 8-bit data interface, which is the common interface for both text and graphic displays. 26. How much RAM and ROM is on the chip? RAM: 40K X 24-bit ROM: 4K X 24-bit (used to store a bootloader) 27. How much processing power is on the STMP3400? 50+ MHz 28. How does

28、 the on-chip DCDC converter compare to external DCDC converters? The on-chip DCDC converter is a 2-channel converter, supplying 2 different voltages to the chip. This enables lower voltages to be used, thereby saving power. This on-chip DCDC converter is more efficient than standard DCDC converters

29、because it runs at a higher clock rate, thereby reducing inductor resistance and power supply noise. 29. What voltages does the DCDC converter supply to the chip? For the DSP core, the DCDC converter supplies 2.5V. For I/O, the DCDC converter supplies 3.3V. 30. Does the STMP3400 supply power to the

Also you can power off USB when connected to the host PC. 33. What pins on the STMP3400 can be used for buttons? All digital pins on the STMP3400 audio deco

32、der, except testmode, are muxed as GPIO which can be used for buttons. 34. What is the Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the DAC? The signal-to-noise ratio of the DAC on the STMP3400 is 95dB. 35.
