6、boxes which contained clothing. No one could account for the fact that one of the boxes was extremely heavy. It suddenly occurred to one of the workers to open up the box. 8、he normal price of a ticket is &230 !Lesson47 A thirsty ghost 嗜酒的鬼魂A public house which was recently bought by Mr Ian Thompson is up for sale. Mr Thompson is going to sell it because it is haunted. He told me that he could not go to sleep one night because he heard a strange noise coming from the ba

9、r. The next morning, he found that the doors had been blocked by chairs and the furniture had been moved. Though Mr Thompson had turned the lights off before he went to bed, they were on in the morning. He also said that he had found five empty whisky bottles which the ghost must have drunk the nigh

10、t before. When I suggested that some villagers must have come in for a free drink, Mr Thompson shook his head. The villagers have told him that they will not accept the inn even if he gives it away. Lesson48 Did you want to tell me something? 你想对我说什么吗?Dentists always ask questions when it is impossi

11、ble for you to answer. My dentist had just pulled out one of my teeth and had told me to rest for a while. I tried to say something, but my mouth was full of cotton-wool. 13、was able to tell him that he had pulled out the wrong tooth. Lesson49 The end of a dream 美梦告终Tired of sleeping on the floor, a young man in Teheran saved up for years to buy a real bed. For the first time in his life, he became the proud owner of a bed which had springs and a mattress. Because the w

14、eather was very hot, he carried the bed on to the roof of his house. He slept very well for the first two nights, but on the third night, a storm blew up. A gust of wind swept the bed off the roof and sent it crashing into the courtyard below. The young man did not wake up until the bed had struck t

15、he ground. Although the bed was smashed to pieces, the man was miraculously unhurt. When he woke up, he was still on the mattress. Glancing at the bits of wood and metal that lay around him, the man sadly picked up the mattress and carried it into his house. After he had put it on the floor, he prom

17、ll tell you where to get off, answered the conductor. I sat in the front of the bus to get a good view of the countryside. After some time, the bus stopped. Looking round, I realized with a shock that I was the only passenger left on the bus. Youll have to get off here, the conductor said. This is a

18、s far as we go. Is this Woodford Green ? I asked. Oh dear, said the conductor suddenly. I forgot to put you off. It doesnt matter, I said. Ill get off here. 19、nd, Herbert, has always been fat, but things got so bad recently that he decided to go on a diet. He began his diet a week ago. 25、e often caused by broken glass or by cigarette ends which people carelessly throw away. Yesterday the firemen examined the ground carefully, but were not able to find any broken glass. They were also quite sure that a cigarette end did not start the fire. This morning, however, a fireman accidentall

26、y discovered the cause. He noticed the remains of a snake which was wound round the electric wires of a 16,000-volt power line. In this way, he was able to solve the mystery. The explanation was simple but very unusual. A bird had snatched up the snake from the ground and then dropped it on to the w

31、n used to detect gold which has been buried in the ground. The machine was used in a cave near the seashore where-it is said-pirates used to hide gold. 32、njoyed herself making the assistant bring almost everything in the window before finally buying the dress she had first asked for.Lesson58 A blessing in disguise? 是因祸得福吗?The tiny village of Frinley is said to possess a cursed tree. Because the tree was mentioned in a newspaper, the number of visitor

33、s to Frinley has now increased. The tree was planted near a church fifty years ago, but it is only in recent years that it has gained an evil reputation. 46、、建筑等二十几个师直企事业单位。2010年年末全师现有人口71116人 ,其中师直13858人,下属团场57258人,汉族人口67965人,哈萨克族人口1849人,维吾尔族人口63人,蒙古族人口185人,其它民族1054人,属于多民族居住地。2010年实现生产总值116373万元,比上年增长10.8%,其中第一产业增加值50741万元,增长22.1%;第二产业增加值24211万元,增长5.3%;第三产业增加值41421万元,增长3.3%,三次产业结构比为43.6:20.8:35.6.人均生产总值16177元,增长11.4%。农九师共有十一个农牧团场,其中有八个分布在394公里长的中哈边界线上,

47、呈现出点多、线长、面广的分布格局。辖区面积539万亩。农九师自然环境恶劣,冬季寒冷漫长,夏季干旱少雨,属多灾害性气候(旱灾、风沙灾、冻灾、病灾)。农作物品种单一,经济落后,发展缓慢。全师11个农牧团场均属国家级贫困团场,职工年均收入低,生活水平不高。1.5.2农九师一六三团概况(1)基本情况辖区面积205.7平方公里即30.85万亩(北区106.5平方公里即15.97万亩;南区99.2平方公里即14.88万亩),其中耕地面积13.83万亩(北区8.47万亩;南区5.36万亩)。团场属北温带大陆性半干旱气候,平均海拔高度(北区532.5米;南区447.5米);年均降水量(北区280毫米;南区26
