1、UTS Business School Doctoral Student Scoring System UTS Business School is committed to attracting and subsequently supporting high quality applicants for the PhD program. As part of this process, applicants for scholarships (both national and UTS-specific) are ranked according to the following crit

2、eria: 1. Prior academic achievement: this is a scale from 1-10 which recognizes the quality of the institutions from which prior educational awards have been received, as well as the level of achievement within those awards. The focus on performance is directed to grades received. The completion of

3、a separate honours year (for undergraduate degrees, particularly from major Australian universities) is recognized separately in the “Research Achievement” category below. Reviewers will consider the standing and reputation of the universities from which degrees have been received, as well as the pe

4、rformance within each award. As an example, an applicant from a prestigious university would receive a score of 5 for university standing, but likely only a score of 3 if the GPA was an equivalent of only 2.8-3.0, making a total score of 8. On the other hand, a student with a very strong GPA but fro

5、m a less recognized university might also receive a similar score, but with different underlying composition. 2. Evidence of research capability and interest: this is a scale from 1-5 which explicitly recognizes the applicants ability to convey their commitment to, and interest in, research. This wi

6、ll reflect the quality of a written submission about proposed area of research or other written material that might be requested and/or voluntarily provided by the applicant. 3. Prior (non-research) experience: this is a scale from 1-5 recognizing prior work experience, whether in a professional cap

7、acity or prior teaching experience. This score is explicitly intended to recognize that successful doctoral students are unlikely to come solely from recent research-oriented qualifications (such as the Australian- type honours degree), as well as the fact that many of the strongest international ap

8、plicants will have significant post-qualification professional work experience and/or have served in lecturing/tutoring roles in non-Australian universities. 4. Prior research experience: this is a scale from 1-5 assessing any prior research experience. High ratings would be given to the completion of an honours year (or research masters) from reputable Australian or overseas universities, as well as evidence of research publications or other forms of research outputs/engagement. All applicants are therefore rated on a scale ranging up to a maximum score of 25.
